COVID Testing in Cozumel Mexico
As of January 26, 2021, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in the United States will require proof of a negative covid test or proof of recovery from covid for all international arrivals. This test must be taken within 72 hours of departure of the flight that lands on U.S. soil – even if that is just a layover on your way to another country. Passengers will be required to present written or electronic documentation to airline agents before boarding.
While this may come as a bit of a shock to many of our guests, the island of Cozumel is already very familiar with this process because testing has been required by Canada for over a week now.
At this time, the CDC requires either a NAAT (PCR nasal swab) or an antigen test, while Canada requires PCR or LAMP testing.
Please be aware that even if you have been vaccinated you are still required to be tested!

Some resorts are now offering FREE testing for guests as well as offering up to 14 days of FREE lodging in the event 1 or more guests test positive for Covid-19. Jump to the bottom of this post for details. Contact your resort or hotel if it is not listed, as they may additional resources for their guests that we are not aware of yet.

COSTAMED (CMC)
A “top-tier” private hospital here on the island, offers four types of covid testing. Call 800-900-1133 for an appointment. Prices valid through March 31, 2021. In addition to stated prices, they have advertised that they will come to your house or hotel to perform tests for an additional $300-$500 mxn, however, we have received information from an unrelated source that they are not offering home service right now. We’ll update this as soon as we hear from CMC directly.
- Rapid Antigen Test is $999 mxn (appx $50 US). Results the same day.
- NAAT/PCR (Nasal Swab) is $2499 mxn (appx $125 US). Results 24-48 hrs.
- Rapid Blood Test is $799 mxn (appx $40 US). Results the same day.
- Extensive Testing (Blood tests IgG/IgM + Imaging and lab studies + General medicine consultation) is $2117 mxn (appx $110 US).
Médica San Miguel
A private hospital located on Calle 6, between Ave, 5 & 10. Regular testing hours are 7a-2p. Call 987-872-0103 for an appointment.
Rapid Antigen Test is $799 mxn (appx $40 US). Results in 20 minutes.
Farmacias del Ahorro
Pharmacy with many locations throughout town. Walk-in service with results in 15 minutes.
Rapid Antigen Test $249+tax = $347 mxn (appx $20 US)
International Hospital
A top-tier private hospital known for its hyperbaric chamber and diver emergency facilities is located on Calle 5 Sur, between Melgar and Ave 5. Call 987-872-1430 for an appointment.
- NAAT/PCR (Nasal Swab) is $2400 mxn (appx $120 US). Results in 2 days.
- Rapid Antibody (IgI/IgM) Test is $950 mxn (appx $48 US). Results in 1 hour.
Hospital AmeriMed Cozumel
A private hospital located on Calle 85 on the corner of Adolfo Rosado Salas. Call 987-872-5555 for appt.
- NAAT/PCR (Nasal Swab) is $2850 mxn (appx $145 US). Results in 24 hours.
- Rapid Antibody (IgI/IgM) Test is $800 mxn (appx $40 US). Results in 3 hours.
- Extensive Testing (Blood tests IgG/IgM + Imaging and lab studies + General medicine consultation) is $2500 mxn (appx $125 US). Results in 24 hours.
